Photography Workshop at Patangyu Street School
In December of 2013, I organized a photography workshop for a group of kids living near the Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujurat (India). The idea was to give them a chance to communicate their lives and communities through photography.
The kids were excited to participate and they each chose themes to photograph that were personally meaningful, such as Family, People, Color and Religion. Using donated cell phone cameras, the kids took photos for a three day period. The images they came back with far exceeded what I imagined to be possible. They are not only beautiful, but lend insight into their lives and environment. I believe they had a hunger to share their experiences and the workshop provided a medium to do just that. And to have some fun :)
If you want to read more details about the workshop or see some of the kids' photos, follow the links below. I'm also planning to create a book highlighting some of the photos, with all proceeds going back to the local community, so check back soon for that!
